ABSTRACT: The purpose of this work is the development of solid state joints of dissimilar material AA 1050 aluminum alloy and AISI 304 stainless steel, which can be used in pipes of tanks of liquid propellants and other pipes of the Satellite Launch Vehicle. The joints were obtained using welding process by conventional rotary friction, which combines the heat generated from friction between two surfaces and mechanical deformation. Tests were conducted with different welding process parameters and measured the temperature at the interface of bonding. The results of these tests were analyzed by means of tensile tests, Vickers microhardness, metallographic tests and SEM-EDX. The strength of the joints varied with increasing friction time and the use of different pressure values. Joints with superior mechanical properties of the AA 1050 aluminum alloy could be obtained at a frictional time of 34 seconds, with the fracture occurring in the aluminum away from the interface of bonding. The temperature monitored in the region of contact between the two materials during the process had a value of 376°C, coinciding with the temperature range for hot forging of the AA 1050 aluminum alloy (315°C - 430°C). The analysis by EDX at the interface of the junction shows that occur interdiffusion between the main chemical components of the materials involved. The welding process by conventional rotary friction proves to be a good method for obtaining joints between dissimilar materials that are not possible by the fusion welding processes. |
