Abstract | Vertical cutoff rigidities have been determined for a grid each 5 degrees in latitude and 5 degrees in longitude over the South American continent. These values have been obtained by the integration of vertically incident cosmic ray trajectories through the International Geomagnetic Reference Field model adjusted for a 1975.0 Epoch, whit calculations made at intervals of 0.01 GV throughout the penumbral region in order to determine an "effective" vertical cuttof rigidity. Since these cutoff rigidities are appropriate for an altitude of 30 km, they will be particulary useful in the interpretation and evaluation of cosmic-ray balloon-borne experiments conducted from sites such as São José dos Campos, Brazil, or other balloon lauching locations in South America. |
