Abstract | The effect of extremal magnetic fields on the velocity of sound in normal metals has been investigated ny many authors. The theory predicts an increase in the sound velocity which depends quadratically on the magnetic field and depends also on the angle between the magnetic field and the direction of propagation of the sound waves. These effects have been confirmed experimentally. In working out these theorie one often neglects the posssible effects of the interaction of the magnetic field with the magnetic moment of the conduction electrons. |
