| Abstract | Rain water samples were collected at Com. Ferraz Station, King George Island, Antarctic Peninsula during 1985, 1986 and 1977 summers. Na+, Mg2+,Cl-SO24 and NO-3 contents were determined in these samples, and pH values were also measured. The results showed a large range variation of ion contents, and the strong marine influence in the chemical composition of the rain. Meteorological conditions found during event precipitations also interfered in that composition. NO concentrations exhibit an anomalous behavior and were not correlated with SO variations. It was observed that rain water in Antarctic Peninsula was slightly acid. |
